Volunteer

Thank you for considering joining our “theatre family.”

Pioneer Playhouse needs volunteers for a (roughly) 12-week period starting in late May through mid-August, to help with summer theatre operations. (Shorter and longer stays are negotiable.)

The theatre prefers the following type of volunteer:

1. Locals – who live within the area and set up a regular schedule of commitment, in advance. And/or wish to be on our “call” list, called in, as needed. If you are a local, send your name, phone number and email address to: pioneer@mis.net, attn: Volunteer Coordinator – to be added to our On Call list.
2. Out of State / Own an RV – If you are from out of state or outside the Danville area and would like to volunteer for the summer season, you may bring your rig to Pioneer Playhouse and camp for free in our campground, during your period of service.
Sorry, but those are the only two types of volunteers that Pioneer Playhouse can accommodate, as our theatre housing situation is limited to Actors Only.

Age Range: Volunteers can be any age, most are retirees who stay in their RV’s, in the adjacent campground.

Duties: Volunteers are needed to help in all areas of theatre operations: ushering, sewing costumes, assisting with backstage work, landscaping, kitchen help, manning the gift shop and concession booth, helping put up posters and distributing brochures.

Most volunteers put in roughly four hours a day, five days a week. Some choose to work full-time and put in longer hours. Pioneer Playhouse can tailor the schedule to meet your needs and proclivities. We try to match volunteers with the tasks they prefer and the schedule that works best for all.

Benefits: Free room & board, during your period of service. Pioneer Playhouse provides three meals a day, six days a week. (Breakfast is continental, lunch & supper are prepared hot meals. No meals on Sunday). If you are a camper, you may park your rig for free.

It is emotionally satisfying to become part of a summer stock theatre experience, sharing in the excitement of putting on five shows in a ten week period. You will be part of a large shared “group experience,” forming friendships that last a lifetime. It is also a great way to learn the ins and outs of summer theatre operations.

Pioneer Playhouse needs volunteers, in order to keep operations going. You will have the satisfaction of knowing that you will be serving the wider community, with your service.
