  A Dramatic Life Remembered

Summer Internship Program

A 10 week live-in theatre intensive (ages 17-21), for those interested in becoming a member of the summer Acting Company

Pioneer Playhouse is a professional summer stock theatre and School of Drama where selected interns spend the summer eating, breathing and living a theatrical experience.

Over a ten-week period, interns will work on plays, learning all aspects of the theatre. It is an intensive, 'hands on' environment that promotes learning by doing.

Everyone in the 20-something person company is treated the same, no matter what level they are hired at. Everyone in the company auditions every two weeks, no roles are precast (with the exception of two: the role of Gus in Cookin' with Gus and Kim Darby's role in Morning's At Seven). When not in rehearsal, everyone works backstage doing tech, no matter if they are intern, apprentice or professional actor. Everyone is treated the same, everyone gets their own cabin-style room, bathrooms are communal.

We put on five plays in ten weeks. We seek people who are easygoing yet serious about theatre...who can handle responsibility in a dedicated theatre environment, working as part of a team in any capacity.

Classes will be offered in Monologue, Scene Study and Audition Techniques. Interns will also be given the opportunity of auditioning with the resident professional acting company every two weeks, thereby improving their auditioning skills and perhaps landing a part in a mainstage production.

Benefits offered by Pioneer School of Drama:

  • Opportunity to be cast and appear in mainstage productions
  • Monologue, Scene Study and Audition Technique classes
  • 'Hands on' experience in all areas of the theatre
  • Auditioning for (and receiving feedback) from five professional directors
  • Interns will live the theatre. Three meals will be provided every day (except Sunday). Working on five plays in a ten-week period combines with class work for an invaluable theatrical experience.

Requirements for admission:

The cost of the Intern/Drama School program is $900 -- $50 payable with application (to be returned if applicant is not accepted), $250 payable upon acceptance and $600 payable by May 28. It is a ten-week period, arrival May 26 through August 16, (shorter or longer terms are negotiable).

Applicants must be mature enough to accept responsibility and must be sincere in purpose to meet obligations and responsibilities given.
