Pioneer Playhouse Mission Statement
To be a leading regional arts complex, school of drama, and outdoor
theatre, dedicated to developing self-esteem and creativity of both actor & audience
in order to expand the mind, awaken the heart and kindle the human spirit.
A
Pioneer Playhouse Foundation has been established to perpetuate the legacy
of Kentucky's oldest outdoor drama. The Foundation has already successfully
raised over $300,000. The goal is to raise one million! To accomplish
that, we need everyone's help! You can also make a contribution by buying
a brick for $150 in our permanent wall, with yourself or loved one's
name engraved for posterity. Write for our Wall of Fame brochure.
Enjoying an evening of live theatre is one of the more pleasurable experiences
in life. It brings a vibrant quality to any community privileged enough
to have a theatre in it. Pioneer Playhouse is a nonprofit theatre and
School of Drama that was conceived a half century ago and remains a 'living
library' of American Theatre History. Its benefit to the community has
been immeasurable, not only as a tourist dollar resource, but for raising
the quality of life in the area for five decades.
Pioneer
Playhouse helped spawn the birth of the Outdoor Drama movement in Kentucky
and was even used as a model during the founding of the National Endowment
for the Arts. Dramatics Magazine has called Pioneer Playhouse 'one of
the most unique theatre histories of our time.'
According to a recent Time magazine article, summer stock theatres have
become a rarity, with curtains closing out of sheer apathy and/or neglect.
There is one way to staunch the tide: DON'T TAKE THE FINE ARTS FOR GRANTED.
Join us on the 'front lines' of the effort to keep the Arts a vibrant
part of the community.
As a nonprofit organization, Pioneer Playhouse makes the ideal write-off
during tax time. Everyone's contributions are needed if the theatre is
to survive!
