2016 Schedule

June 10 – June 25
One Man, Two Guvnors
by Richard Bean
Looking to make his mark in Brighton, England during the swinging 60s, Francis finds a job with two different small-time gangster bosses, or “guvnors.” But confusion – and hilarity – starts to mount as an easily distracted (and constantly hungry) Francis tries to keep both bosses happy, and apart. Five-star reviews in London! The comedy hit of the 2012 Broadway season! Rated PG.

June 28 – July 9
Mom’s Gift
by Phil Olson
When Mom’s ghost appears at Dad’s birthday party, eldest daughter Kat thinks she’s going nuts. But as Mom explains, she’s on a mission to earn her wings, just like Clarence in Its a Wonderful Life, and she needs Kat’s help. From the author of the hit, A Nice Family Gathering: another uplifting contemporary comedy chock-full of heart. Rated PG.

July 12 – July 23
Good Blues Tonight
by Robby Henson
A Kentucky Voices original event! World premiere!
Set in 1956, this Kentucky original celebrates Danville’s Second Street “stroll”–where barbershops, pool halls and social clubs once anchored a vibrant African-American cultural life. Featuring live music from the era of the legendary “chitlin’  circuit,” this exciting new play by our own Robby Henson (The Wonder Team) will rock the house! Rated G.

July 26 – August 6
The Tell-Tale Farce
by Don Zolidis
It‟s 1848, and even though Edgar Allan Poe’s The Raven is a big hit, it hasn’t earned its author much money. So when a wealthy dowager offers one hundred dollars to write a poem in her honor, Poe leaps at the chance. The only problem: the man who shows up isn’t Poe at all, but his mailman. A free-wheeling farce featuring mistaken identities and a multitude of mustaches! Rated PG.

August 9 – August 20
The Murder Room
by Jack Sharkey
In this zany spoof of British murder mysteries, upper crust eccentric Edgar Hollister goes missing and his new, younger wife, Mavis, is suspiciously unconcerned. Has Edgar met with foul play, or is it all part of an elaborate hoax? Called “a mix of Agatha Christie, Monty Python, and Abbot and Costello,” this rollicking romp is to die for! Rated G.

August 26 – 27
Special Comedy Weekend
Etta May is back!
Yes, it’s true! The “Queen of Southern Sass” returns to Pioneer Playhouse for 2 nights only! Don’t miss a chance to see this Kentucky-fried favorite strut her stuff under the stars (indoors in case of rain of course!) Rated PG
