Pioneer Playhouse is a professional summer stock theatre and School of Drama where selected interns spend the summer eating, breathing and living a theatrical experience. Cost: $900 – includes room and board for 10 weeks.
The internship is the ONLY category where you can schedule an over-the-phone (long distance) interview, and be accepted. (Apprentice and Professional Actor categories are hired based upon in-person interviews.)
Must be at least 18 years, to attend. (Average age: 18-23)
Description: Over a ten-week period, interns will work on plays, learning all aspects of theatre. It is an intensive, ‘hands on’ environment that promotes learning by doing.
Everyone in the company auditions every two weeks for roles and the director may select from any “category” (actor, apprentice, intern) when casting. When not in rehearsal, everyone helps out building and painting the sets, backstage. Everyone gets their own individual room, bathrooms are communal.
(The rooms are a row of “rustic” dorms built in the 1950’s, made out of barn-wood.)
Pioneer Playhouse puts on five plays in ten weeks. The intense “summerstock” pace is demanding. Applicants must be mature enough to accept responsibility and must be sincere in purpose to meet obligations and responsibilities given.
