Funnyman Lee Cruse Hits Historic Pioneer Playhouse Stage!

LeeCruse03For the past several years, Pioneer Playhouse of Danville has hosted a special stand-up comedy weekend at the close of its regular summer play season. This year, the 69-year-old theatre is thrilled to bring TV personality and comedian, Lee Cruse, and his Kentucky All-Stars Comedy Tour to its stage on August 24 and 25.

Perhaps best known as a News Anchor and Host on TV’s LEX18, Cruse also works as a stand-up comic, traveling the country working at various comedy clubs, colleges, universities and corporate events.

“I think a lot of folks don’t realize Lee actually started out as a comedian, and continues to fit stand-up into his busy schedule,” says Heather Henson, Managing Director of Pioneer Playhouse. “Of course everybody knows Lee is funny. They’ve seen him be funny every day on TV for years; they’ve listened to him be funny on his radio shows. But they don’t realize he’s got real stand-up chops as well. And it’s been fun letting people know about that.”

For years, Kentuckians have woken up with Cruse first thing in the morning on LEX 18’s Live with Lee interviews from the field. Now Cruse has moved to a less sleep-deprived schedule, continuing his live-from-the field interviews, but at 4:00 in the afternoon. Cruse is also co-host, along with Hayley Harmon, of the hugely popular 12:30 pm show Live with Lee and Hayley.

“Lee has always been a big supporter of the Playhouse, and when we asked if he would be our comic and close out our season this year, he was really excited,” says Henson. “But he also wanted to put one of his pet projects in the spotlight, too.”

Lee Cruse will be performing at Pioneer Playhouse on August 24 and 25th along with his Kentucky All-Stars Comedy Tour, which is made up of the winners from a series of open mic nights held at Comedy Off-Broadway in Lexington. Scott Wilson, also of Comedy Off-Broadway, will act as emcee at the historic theatre.

“So audiences will get to see some new rising stars, along with a couple of seasoned pros,” Henson says. “It’s really going to be a full night of comedy! Lots of laughs for the money!”

Lee Cruse and his Kentucky All-Star Comedy Tour will hit the Pioneer Playhouse stage for two nights only: August 24 and 25. Tickets are $19 per person for show only at 8:30 pm; $34 per person for show and a pre-show BBQ dinner at 7:30 pm. The comedy event is rated PG-13, and is geared for more adult audiences. A bar serving beer, wine and spirits will be open for those 21 and over.

Pioneer Playhouse is located at 840 Stanford Road in Danville, KY.  Reservations can be made by calling the box office at 859-236-2747 or toll-free at 866-597-5297, or you can order online.
